Case Study: The 9th Annual Hunt for Good Urban Art Scavenger Hunt
This year we had the pleasure of teaming up with The Simple Good and their flagship, 9th Annual Hunt for Good Scavenger Hunt throughout the city of Chicago! The Simple Good is an amazing nonprofit organization whose core mission is to share the meaning of “good” through art, and create a more empathetic, positive, and connected world. Since it’s inception in 2015, the Hunt for Good has helped serve over 7,000 students and impact 16 communities across the United States led by Founder and Executive Director, Priya Shah.
In past years teams would use photo-sharing apps like Instagram to complete various tasks around neighborhoods across Chicago. With hundreds of individuals participating, this would result in hundreds of unique submissions and require massive manpower from a setup, judging, and operations standpoint specific to the hunt itself. In 2024, Roamli was tasked with increasing the engagement and gamification of the hunt while simplifying the judging process on the back end.
There were over 100 unique challenges throughout Chicago which included completing different team-based “acts of good”, as well as finding beautiful murals, sculptures, landmarks, and other sights throughout the city. Our Roamli team worked closely with the Hunt for Good coordinators to map the locations across the city in 10 different neighborhoods including Streeterville, River North, River West, West Loop, The Loop, South Loop, Pilsen, Bronzeville, Hyde Park, and Chinatown in a visually accessible, interactive map for players to utilize.
The night before the event, players received a game code/link through the Roamli web-based platform for the 9th Annual Hunt for Good Urban Art Scavenger Hunt and were able to complete the event on their mobile devices as a team. You can view some of our other Chicago-based events to get a better understanding of different game layouts. This saved valuable resources and time for the admin team without having to print physical maps or brochures for teams to navigate the city.
At the starting line, groups checked-in and registered their team name based on their sign-up registration. This was the determining factor when managing the points and leaderboards throughout the 3-hour event.
Once the clock struck 11AM, the team’s were off to the races! Each challenge had their own unique rewards for points with some of the more difficult challenges weighing more depending on location and the activity itself. Some of the most fun parts of any scavenger hunt are running into other competing teams throughout the city while helping represent an amazing cause such as The Simple Good. In the end there were a few teams neck-and-neck, all vying for the elusive grand prize which ended in a celebratory party at the Willis Tower on a beautiful summer day.
Within 2 minutes of the hunt’s conclusion, we were able to identify the top 3 teams and issue the announcement to participants and overall standings across the board. With nearly 500 unique submissions, the Roamli platform was able to suggest auto-approvals and help judges move through the challenges with ease.
At the end of the after-party, the 9th Annual Hunt for Good raised over $30,000 to help provide summer programming for all 400 students in local Chicago communities! The top 3 teams were:
Team SVP Chicago
Flying Dutchies
The “A” Team
It was a beautiful event highlighted by a monumental cause, and we couldn’t be more excited to help with TSG’s upcoming 10th Hunt for Good event in 2025! To learn more about The Simple Good and their work, visit: https://www.thesimplegood.org/
