Event Spotlight: Dayton Adventure Race

Without a doubt one of the best experiences working at Roamli is being able to see some truly inspiring community events throughout the United States! With our Event Spotlight series we always try and highlight some of the most unique Scavenger Hunts, Tracks, and more that our partners create and the annual Dayton Adventure Hunt is no exception.

This event was held during the summer and was part of the AES Ohio Summer in the City 2021 lineup. Sponsored by the Downtown Dayton Partnership, there were over 100+ “Challenges” scattered throughout the city including new businesses, beautiful murals, and other hidden gems that took players out of their comfort zones on an “Amazing-Race” style adventure. Teams used Roamli to solve riddles, puzzles, and other clues to earn points and compete for the chance to win cash prizes and other rewards.

“We’re so excited to have people come out and explore downtown Dayton businesses, landmarks, and more during the Downtown Adventure”, said Sandra K. Gudorf, president of the Downtown Dayton Partnership. “It’s a chance for people to come out and rediscover their favorite spots throughout the city or explore new businesses and sights that have opened since their last visit.” The event itself lasted 4 hours with 2 teams completing all 104 challenges in the time limit!

There was no fee for businesses to participate and we saw hundreds of players roaming the city exploring new and old sights. On average each challenge saw 60+ team submissions as people spent time shopping and engaging with local business owners. Challenges included winning a game of Mario Kart at Connect E-Sports, guessing the number of cocoa beans at Reza’s Roast, and accurately counting the number of cats on a large mural on 5th Street. The challenges were created by the local businesses and Downtown Dayton Partnership allowing for friends and families to compete against one another while having fun.

We were on the ground for this event cheering teams on as they ran throughout the city and it was amazing seeing the interactions between players. Roamli events are great ways to connect communities, people, and businesses and we can’t wait to share more stories as we travel around the country! Thanks to the city of Dayton and the Downtown Dayton Partnership for choosing us to help with their event and we’re so excited for next years Adventure Race!
